Curriculum Intent
We are committed to creating a positive, safe and nurturing Christian environment, where all members of the school community will be respected and valued and SHINE. By SHINE in Computing we mean children:
- Sparkle by having confidence and ability in computing, which enables us to be ready for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world.
- Help to keep ourselves safe online, by providing children with the right knowledge and skills to do so.
- Imagine ourselves playing an active role in a fast moving technological world.
- Nurture a passion for technology and its vital role in our society.
- Excel by understanding how technology is an aid to learning.

Computing scheme of work
At Minety we have adopted theTwinkl PlanIt scheme of work which is an award-winning scheme of learning for the National Curriculum that's centred around high-quality content. Click here to access the whole school progression map - which shows the units that your child will cover in each year group.
Seesaw proved to be an invaluable tool during lockdown period. Our teachers were able to deliver online learning for each class and work could be marked by the teachers remotely.
The platform is also used as a homework tool and allows teachers, pupils and parents to all give feedback on individual pieces of work; a fantastic way to strengthen home-school links and further improve the children's computing skills.
Scratch
Class 6 have been busy putting their coding skills to use and have created their own mazes.
Stop - motion
On their recent visit to 'We the Curious' the class were able to create their own animations using Stop motion technology.
Class 5 have been writing algorithms on Turtle Logo as part of computing.
NSPCC
At Minety we take online safety very seriously and have participated in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. online safety programme.
Speak out. Stay safe. is a safeguarding programme where children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or Childline.

The Stay Safe Initiative
We had a visit from the 'Stay Safe Initiative' who help educate and protect young people. The children experienced interactive sessions which and involved both mental and physical participation including role-play, fun activities and challenges. We had sessions on the following:
- Internet safety
- Anti-bullying
- Stranger awareness
